West Whitlawburn Housing Co-operative deeply saddened by the passing of Muriel Alcorn

WWHC has been deeply saddened by the passing of Muriel Alcorn, peacefully at her home in West Whitlawburn on 2nd June 2020.

Muriel, an original founder member of WWHC back in 1989, has been a stalwart and a cornerstone of WWHC for over 3 decades, serving as treasurer for much of that time.

Muriel will be badly missed. Muriel was also well known for her work with Employers in Voluntary Housing and with other voluntary groups in the Cambuslang area, and won a number of awards for her voluntary work.

Anne Anderson, Chair of WWHC said ” Muriel’s voluntary contribution to WWHC and the wider voluntary housing movement is second to none. In over 30 years Muriel hardly missed a meeting, showing quite incredible committment in being a significant part of a transformational movement. Muriel was also heavily involved in many other local community groups over the years, and showed amazing drive and passion to improve the local community. WWHC will not be the same without Muriel.”

Muriel previously worked as a Nursing Sister, having started nursing training when she was 44 in 1976. Muriel worked in TB units in Ruchilll and Stobhill hospitals until her retirement in 1992, Muriel reached the grand age of 88 in May this year, Muriel is survived by her 3 children, daughters Muriel, Linda, and son Paul.
